Romantic breaks in Cambridgeshire
Cambridgeshire is a land of big skies, nature reserves and the fine historic cities. The county as a whole is best characterised by the lovely view of the 'Ship of the Fens', Ely's magnificent cathedral that dominates the flat, but by no means featureless, landscape of the Cambridgeshire Fens for miles around.

Making the most of your romantic break
It is the University city of Cambridge that is the greatest draw. Romantics should hire a chauffeured punt - the city's answer to the gondola. Glide gently along the "Backs" of the River Cam with your lover, perhaps with a bottle of wine and some strawberries, admiring the flowers, beautiful bridges and architecture of the venerable colleges and grand chapels.
You'll see Kings College, Claire College and Trinity College as well as the Mathematical bridge designed by Sir Isaac Newton and the other romantic bridge of Sighs. Take more time and a picnic and head the other way towards Granchester - you'll soon be in timeless country landscape observed casually by curious cows in the meadows that line the river.
While in Cambridge take a romantic stroll by the lake and along the Woodland Walk at the lovely Cambridge University Botantic Garden Rock Garden. There are also beautiful gardens at nearby Anglesey Abbey.
To get back to nature head to Wicken Fen and walk together along the traditional droves, green paths and boardwalk nature trails in this haven for flora and fauna. Take a picnic and explore this wonderfully tranquil, relaxing and rejuvenating reminder of the wilderness that once covered East Anglia.
Cambridgeshire is a great choice for a romantic break or holiday.
