To treat your lover take them to Grafton Street, for posh shopping and most of the city's museums and art galleries.

If you yearn for the country you can find it within leaving the city limits at Phoenix Park. Deer roam free in this, one of the world's largest city parks.

For a breath of sea air it's easy to get out of the city to the coastal villages of Dublin Bay - go north to Howth or south to Sandycove, beloved by James Joyce. Killiney is well the trip, now largely a celebrity enclave.
