Making the most of your romantic break

Yorkshire is walking country so pack your boots and head off with your partner to explore. Travel where you may you'll be hard pushed to find scenery as beautiful as it is in The Dales. Man has enhanced and preserved this landscapeover over hundreds of years, carving out fields in the vales and framing heathered moors and wild flower meadows with lovely dry-stone walls. Take your lover out into this National Park and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and remind yourselves that it's a beautiful world.

You can also get away from it all in the pristine and beautiful hills and valleys of the Wolds. The area is full of picturesque villages complete with traditional greens, churches and cosy pubs in which to snuggle. A metropolis in comparison, Beverley is a pleasant town around which you should stroll to take in the famous Gothic Minster and historic archirecture.

Across Yorkshire seek out the historic country houses whose walls and windows, gates and gardens evoke their rich and romantic past so evokatively. Now on to the coast to feel the sea breeze on your face and sand in your toes. First stop the bustling cobbled streets of Whitby. Hold hands as you walk the narrow alleys around the quay. Now tighten your grip on each other before climbing the steps up to St Mary's churchyard, Bram Stoker inspiration for his novel, Dracula.

Travel on to the charming town of Filey - out of season its five miles of golden beach is a lovers playground. There are some lovely fishing villages to explore along Yorkshire's coast, half hidden among the dramatic cliffs and half moon bays. You can even see clear dinosaur footprints along the shores of Burniston and Scalby.
