Romantic breaks in Brighton
Once famous as the destination of choice for Londoners in search of a "dirty weekend", Brighton has cleaned up its act but remains in every sense a fun place for a luxury romantic break.
Once one of the most fashionable resorts in Europe, patronised by the Prince Regent from 1783 and the like of Beau Brummell, it fell from grace before rising again as the creative, vibrant, sophisticated and cosmopolitan seaside city that it is today.
Romantic hotels in Brighton
There are some magnificent seafront luxury hotels, offering romantic sea views bathed in Brighton's special theatrical light.
Making the most of your romantic break in Brighton
Spend your day chilling and fooling around at the beach (not necessarily the nude bit) watching the kite surfers. Wander along the beach front past the surf shops, cafes and bars towards the Palace Pier for some traditional seaside fun and games - arcade games, ice creams and dodgems.
Buy your lover a unique keepsake from a shop in the Lanes before and visit the Pavillion, the romantic and exotic palace of George IV.
Then head for the hills. The magnificent South Downs are minutes from the City. Visit Devils Dyke and Ditchling beacon for country views that stretch for miles and on to Ditchling itself - the quintessential English village just five miles and a world away from Brighton.
For nightlife Brighton rocks. Start your evening with cocktails at the seafront Grand Hotel and then stroll along the seafront to eat. Alfresco lovers should head to atmospheric Lanes area or down to the boardwalk right next to the pebbly beach, where some of the best bars, clubs and restaurants can be found.
Alternatively take in some comedy, live music or other performances at great venues like Komedia.
