Making the most of your romantic break in the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight has long been a favourite for family holidays but out of season or away from the bucket and spade beaches you'll find rejuvenating romantic scenic beauty away from the crowds. Outside the peak holiday periods the sandy beaches of Ryde, Sandown and Shanklin are made for long romantic strolls.

Any time of year you get off the beaten track and explore the quieter, pristine beaches of the South West of the Island. You will need to scramble down a cliff to explore some of them, an effort rewarded by the secluded coves and bay views.

Inland the countryside that delighted Queen Victoria remains captivating. Explore it by foot, bike or on horse-back. Take a stroll through the forest from Strawberry Lane and visit the historic LongStone.

Osborne House, Queen Victoria's favourite country retreat is well worth a visit. Make sure you have lunch at The Terrace Restaurant, located within the former Victoria Hall and Orangery of Osborne House. It overlooks beautiful flower-filled terraces and you'll enjoy fine sea views beyond the fountains.

Aim to finish your day at the romantic beachfront Spyglass Inn in Ventnor. You won't want to leave.
