Making the most of your romantic weekend
After a leisurely breakfast in bed, set off for Castle Combe, considered by many the prettiest village in England. Then on to the romantic village of Lacock, setting for Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Emma.
It seems that the county has cornered the market for period film locations. Malmesbury, England's oldest borough regularly plays back-drop to period pieces, and will provide inspiration for your own bodice-ripping romantic break.
Go further back in time to the towering spire of Salisbury Cathedral (England's tallest) in this lovely medieval city. Then on with the walking boots if you have the energy to the "gallery" that is The White Horse walk. This path shows off eight white horses carved into the hillside by artists working on a grand scale.
Wiltshire's history goes back much further to pre-history, and boasts two mysterious World Heritage sites - the prehistoric monuments of Stonehenge and Avebury.
